Cincinnati Landmark Productions is staging The Wedding Singer at the Warsaw Federal Incline Theater. This production has audiences partying like it’s 1986! With all the stereotypical language, looks, and love stories of the movie, The Wedding Singer will take you back in time straight to the 80s.

The Story

Wedding singer Robbie Hart (Cian Steele) is all set to marry his one true love Linda (Cassidy Perme). When Robbie is dumped, he loses all passion for singing at weddings, which causes quite the problem for his bandmates, Sammy (Trey Finkenstead) and George (Tyler Gau). When his pals in the band finally convince Robbie to sing at another wedding, a disaster ensues when he turns his personal pain from Linda’s rejection into angry lyrics which enrage the newly married couple and their guests. Meanwhile, Julia (Maria Zierolf) is hoping to marry her Wall Street boyfriend Glen (John Herndon).

However Glen is not the prince charming some may think he is. Julia convinces Robbie, being the wedding guru he is, to help her with preparations for her own big day. After spending more and more time together, Robbie realizes he is in love with Julia. As this love triangle unfolds, we get glimpses into the love life of others who work at the wedding venue including Sammy’s on again off again relationship with Julia’s friends Holly (Jenny Herndon). Will true love really conquer all? Or will the urge to merge in holy matrimony snuff out their true feelings? Come see this kooky show to find out!

Performances

CLP regulars, Cian Steele (Robbie), Trey Finkenstead (Sammy) and Tyler Gau (George) create the perfect trio whose lighthearted antics keep audiences enthralled in a story that they already know well. Gau yet again shows off his abilities as a character actor. His quirky one liners throughout the production keep everyone in the theater on their toes.

Another stand out performance comes from Jenny Herndon as Holly. Herndon captures our attention as the ditzy 80s stereotype from the first gum smacked word that comes from her mouth. This combined with her killer vocals in Saturday Night had audiences begging for more. Newcomer to the Incline stage, Mary Vosseberg, had audiences rolling with her many characters throughout the production. An audience favorite being that of the priest at Robbie Hart’s wedding. Vosseberg has impeccable vocal control with her harmonies during numbers big and small as well as the many voices she is able to create in order to transform into each character.

The 80s stereotypes are undeniable in this production. From the language to the hair, there is a memory on the stage for every 80s kid in the audience. The choreography of this production pays homage to the time period as well. Choreographer, Zac Holman, has created some visually stunning moments throughout this production that take it to the next level. A favorite being the eccentric ensemble number All About The Green. The visuals created through movement further accentuate the costumes and wigs used throughout this production. The sheer numbers of wigs used throughout this production rival the wig rooms of Broadway theaters. This combined with the era perfect costumes and makeup truly transport the audience back to the 80s.

Overall

This production is the perfect throwback and homage to the 1998 movie! CLP has created an 80s time machine that has Gen X, Millennials and all other generations begging for more.
