Panelists for the League of Cincinnati Theatres (LCT) have recognized Northern Kentucky University’s production of Royal Gambit with an LCT nomination for Costume Design (Brian Horton) as well as distinguishing it as a recommended production.
In Royal Gambit, King Henry VIII has everything he wants, except a suitable heir. His legacy is all too well known, but what about the women he wooed? In this portrait of the infamous king and the six women in his life, Henry remains the same throughout but the women progress to modern times, showing their knowledge of the lasting effects of Henry’s deeds.
Panelists praised the Tudor costume design as “authentic, layered and sumptuous.” The production as a whole was commended as “well-executed; “such young talent reinforces NKU‘s solid future delivering graduates moving on to big things.”
Royal Gambit continues through November 4th. Tickets can be purchased at http://artscience.nku.edu/departments/theatre/boxoffice.html.
Final LCT awards will be determined at the end of the season and announced at the LCT gala in the spring.
